Royal Caribbean names its second Quantum-Ultra class ship ‘Odyssey of the Seas’

Friday 1st February 2019, Royal Caribbean announced the name of its upcoming second Quantum-Ultra class cruise ship – ‘Odyssey of the Seas’.

The name was announced at the traditional steel-cutting ceremony at Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany. Royal Caribbean also stated that the ship, the 27th in the Royal Caribbean fleet, would sail from a US home-port.

Turn around is going to be quick, with Odyssey of the Seas is due to launch in late 2020. Spectrum of the Seas, the first Quantum-Ultra class ship launches this spring and will be sailing Asia.

Richard Fain, Chairman and CEO, Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. was on hand to announce that the ship will be named Odyssey of the Seas and will debut fall 2020 and sail out of the United States.

Details of Odyssey’s features are obviously still scarce at this time, but we can expect her to be very similar to Spectrum of the seas – featuring a new ship-within-a-ship concept. We will update you as we know more about this new addition to the Royal Caribbean family.
